Two of the foremost historic sites in OKC are the Oklahoma State Capitol, completed in 1917 though the dome was added only recently, and the Oklahoma City University. The State Capitol building has on display many paintings depicting significant events in history. The view of the dome from the inside is most impressive. The Oklahoma City University campus was established in 1903 and features certain architectural delights, most notable of which is the Gothic memorial library. The campus is on the National Register of Historic Places.

The Governor's Mansion has been the residence of the governor of Oklahoma since 1928. This 14,000 square feet Dutch Colonial mansion contains 12 rooms including the Oklahoma room with the state seal on the carpet. Admission is free and guided tours are offered on Wednesdays. There is also a gift shop.

The Harn Homestead dates back to the 1889 Oklahoma Land Run. The 1889er Museum is also located in the 9.4-acre compound. School students are offered interactive educational programming here, and the area is also available for private parties, weddings, and corporate events. Visitors are admitted at $5 per person, while admission is free for children under 3.
